"Very pretty, Colonel, very pretty. But can they fight?"
An old boss asked the same question of one of my sales teams (curiously enough, this was the same team that tripled revenue in 4 months).
I'll admit that back then it seemed a lot tougher to separate Thoroughbreds from B players. My methods were different and seemed to have about a 60-65% success rate when many others in my shoes weren't quite hitting 50%.
As I was learning, my methods started hitting 75% success rate. Once I started adding assessments into the process, success for hiring sales hunters jumped to 92-95%. Remarkable.
Then everything changed.
While working in a sales recruiting project, we started doing some tweaking to the assessment results. At first, we didn't quite know what we were looking at. It was cool, clean, and weird all at the same time.
What started out as a bunch of numbers on a page, quickly grew to become Sales Hunter DNA. While the numbers made sense to the "geeks who do assessments," we had to make it instantly clear to someone seeing it for the very first time who the A players were vs B vs C or D.

Below Average in that particular category. A red dot in either of 2 very specific categories means instant disqualification.
Average. Green dots across all categories means a solid B/B+ player.
Above Average in that category.
How easy is that?
But wait...it gets better.
Certain things became clearer. In certain instances where there were no "warning signs" in the assessments,..but the DNA algorithm caught it. This took our success rate to 99% - WOW!
While that sounds cool, the best part is that it takes less than 1/3 of the time to arrive at a better and more consistent conclusion. Imagine that.
Fast forward to today...where we just had our second client hire 2 of the finalists. Their comment was that the candidates were head-and-shoulders above anyone they'd interviewed in the past.
